In this edition of AC Spotlight, we sit down with Morgan, the Dungeon Master behind Heroes of Evermore. From humble beginnings at a dining room table to a fully-realized production and a published novel, Morgan’s journey is a masterclass in world-building and player immersion.

Whether he’s dropping a seven-foot dragon head from his garage ceiling or mailing cryptic daggers to his players, Morgan’s goal is simple: to create a "rest and reprieve from the outside world" where anyone can be a hero.

The Evolution of Evermore

What started six years ago as a way to convince friends to roll dice over drinks has evolved into a multi-platform fantasy epic.

  • Campaign 1 was a two-plus year journey played on dry-erase grids at a dinner table.

  • Morgan turned the first arc of that initial campaign into a fantasy adventure novel, now available on Amazon.

  • Campaign 2 shifted into a "hybrid stream," featuring pre-recorded sessions and high-quality recaps for better "watchability".

Breaking the Fourth Wall: Immersion Techniques

Morgan is best known for his "immersion techniques". Physical props and effects that bridge the gap between the players and the story.

  • He often mails props to guest players, such as a military dagger containing a hidden letter from a character’s deceased mother.

  • He utilizes everything from fog machines for dragon breath to dry ice and water pumps to simulate a Kraken emerging from a flooded coliseum.

  • Players have had to use blacklight pens to reveal hidden messages in journals or crack physical codexes at the table.

Advice for Aspiring Creators

Transitioning from a home game to a production isn't easy. Morgan highlights the "extra layer of stress" that comes with being "on" for the camera.

"There’s no point of telling a story if there’s no one there to experience it... I’m the humble dungeon master trying to bring this world to life in any way, shape, and form that I can."
